AIM, the annual Achievement In Marketing gala, is quickly approaching. It is central Ohio’s premier industry event showcasing the most outstanding and unique efforts of the marketing and communication community and offers a chance to network and reconnect with marketing leaders.

This year, the keynote is particularly interesting. Paul Smith is Director of Market Research at Procter & Gamble and the author of the best selling book Lead with a Story: A Guide to Crafting Business Narratives That Captivate, Convince, and Inspire. His work has been featured in Time Magazine, Forbes, CIO Magazine, Investors Business Daily, Marketing Research Magazine, PR News, the American Banking Journal, and London’s Edge Magazine, among others.

Paul mentions his personal story is similar to many of those in the AMA. “If you were to write my professional background in a few words, it would probably be indistinguishable from most everyone else in the AMA... 10-20 years in the business and marketing world, MBA from a good school, read 4-5 business books a year for the past decade, can calculate the ROI on my spending in my sleep, know the four Ps of marketing, Porter's 5 forces, and my customer segmentation strategy like the back of my hand.”

But that belies the brilliance to his outstanding reputation as a marketing executive and author.

Lead with a Story is based on interviews with over 75 CEOs and executives at dozens of companies around the world, Lead with a Story teaches how to use the power of storytelling to navigate 21 of the most common challenges business leaders face. Paul will be bringing deeper insights with him when he addresses the Columbus AMA on January 18th focusing on proven methods to improving transmedia marketing campaigns, internal and external communication, and your personal leadership techniques.

What’s his source of inspiration you might ask? For Paul, it’s very simple. “At this point in my career, the greatest source of ideas, learning, and inspiration isn't going to come from a school, a certificate, or an academic journal. It comes from the work of the many brilliant and creative people in my industry. I'm looking forward to seeing the best of what we've done in the past year, in hopes that it will move me to produce something worthy of sharing back in the spotlight next year. “

Meet Paul Smith at the AIM awards on January 18th, 2013.
